Open Letter to an Environmentalist

Dear friend you have been raising voice for paristhithi. Would you please explain what is paristhithi? is it nature? environment? ecosystem? Or a confused mass of all those features?

You believe in it because you are after a religion, of the past; the primitives worshiped trees, animals forces of nature ,wind, rain; but even before humans bridled systems of nature, even without human intervention you had floods,earthquakes the eco-strata and status underwent fierce changes. Many a species disappeared from earth in the course of evolution not due to human intervention.Environment is the product of human intervention that streamlined ecosystem to a fertile, habitat. 

It is human in-habitation that made earth a comfortable habitat of nature. Resisting human intervention in the prevailing system preserves an objective. Resist production in undeveloped underdeveloped countries. It is a colonial agenda. Production is impossible without human intervention upon ecosystem  and without production humanity cannot subsist long on earth. See what you call the present ecosystem itself is greatly determined by human intervention and what you feel as environment is cent percent the product of human interaction with the given ecosystem. Human intervention or production makes earth more and more habitable. We can't have a sterile ecosystem. it cannot be sterile and it is productive and if man refuses to interact with it would incite natural calamities.

The potential ills of human intervention is in evitable as you cannot have birth without the waste of blood and fluids and the risk of death. You cannot prohibit birth for the risk involved in it so the risk element and the chances of disaster are there even in the equation of e=mc2. Any way it is proved fact that productive human intervention upon ecosystem is not so disatrous as hiroshima or a tsunami or eruption of a volcano or a whirl wind.See humans with their consistent productive interaction has restrained all such calamities latent in the ecostratum. Terrains of Identity Politics: Some Thoughts

Identity in the times of latent capitalism...

Identity politics spells out various meanings. This convenience is used by different movements. It communicates something surreal yet ubiquitous in a society. It is used as a wrapper for many movements from its inception. Some treat it as a counter current for class politics; where as some others use it against nationalist politics. There are some others who consider it as a prelude to the class politics. Beneath this polymorphic composition and ambiguity there lay vexed questions on the terrains of identity politics.

In the works of Michael Keith and Steven Pile [Politics and Spaces of identity], modernist identity politics have created a sort of essential-ism that rests on the exclusivity of certain norms. They allege that this sort of exclusivity and selectivity of modernist identity politics have made it very divisive. This was not congenial for working toward a multiple, pluralized yet still radical conceptualization of agency and identity.

We can see an array of works on the national identity discourses. It may tempt us to think that identity politics have superseded the national polity. Simon Bekker defines Identity politics as the search of reconciliation between nation building and demands by different citizens for recognition of communal identity. He goes on to say that identity politics has emerged as a primary challenge in many nation states. He accuses the national tendencies to achieve homogeneity as the primary reason for the unrest and ethnic conflicts. This conveniently ignores the external interventions that stir ethnic unrest.

Moreover, homogeneity is an apparent ideology resting on the ethos of cultural nationalism. In that sense, the attempt for a cultural homogeneity itself is an identity politics. Rashtriya Swyayamsevak Sangh (RSS) which preaches a ‘Hindutva India’ is one instant example for this. They are the ones who raise voice for uniform civil code and hegemony of Hindutva ideology.

Thus any attempt to unify the nation based on culture or religion or language devoid of considerations of productive forces and the social relations will become identity politics in reality. Stanford Encyclopedia highlights that identity politics strive to achieve a political freedom for a specific constituency of marginalized people. But this fails to explain the causes of marginalization. The awareness that only a particular constituency of people is marginalized is because of identity politics. It confines the perspective to specific identity ignoring the totality in exploitation.

In a market economy, if someone says that only tribes are marginalized, it is a cruelty to slum dwellers and the millions in the unorganized sector. The process of marginalization acts as a time warp for all those who labor Only those outside the dominant mode of production will be in a perpetual state of marginalization. Detaching tribes from the dominant mode of production by way of identity politics will only worsen their plight.

The case of Narmada Bacho Andolan (NBA) is a grim example of identity politics. The apolitical struggle of environmental politics detached the struggling people from the political process and its dynamics. Their voices became unheard in the political ecosystem. What the identity politics has achieved in NBA is creating a perpetual apolitical site. This generates a question: who creates marginalization, NBA or National government?

Capitalism has evolved to become sustainable in ecology of unequal modes of production. It no longer standardizes the economy. As capitalism now thrives on the expanding market economy rather than nation states, it stimulates multiplicity of choices. It is in this focal point where the pluralism of identity politics and the market’s desire for multiple choices converge.

The question of identity rests on the epidemiological currents initiated by modernism. The essence of modernism lies in the characteristic methods of a discipline to criticize itself, not in order to subvert it, but to enrich it more firmly in its area of competence [Modernist Painting, Clement Greenberg]. Thus it inherits a tendency to criticize itself. As self-criticism is the organic element of Marxism, it is easy to draw parallel lines between Modernism and Marxism. The awareness of identity is a dialectical process between objective knowledge and subjective experience. Identity is a subjective knowledge of objective experience as well. It is rooted in both of them. Thus identity is the dialectical product of objectivity and subjectivity. Identity of identity is nothing but the labor process and life process. Hence identity is both reflexive and self critical in nature. With the progress of either objective knowledge or subjective experience identity undergoes transformation in form and content. This means that identity of a child born to a religious family undergoes change if he studies in a national institution and it changes further if goes on to work in a multi-national corporate organization.

Thus if class is the dynamic product of self in labour, identity is the transient process by which self changes. It is this volatility of identity that becomes the instrument of imperialism. It captures one by its fractured identity and tempts to organize based on it. Fractured identity and identity crisis can be rooted in both crisis in knowledge and crisis in experience. It implies a crisis in the criticism itself. It is this fractured identity or identity crisis that is being targeted by the architects of identity politics. These formations of identity groups are not self made always. Imperialism purchases the identity formations through various funding agencies. And using the power of money, imperialism exercises hegemony over the identity groups. And using this funded economy, identity groups will be integrated to the imperial market economy. FOM MARXISM TO MACRO FINANCE

 From Marxism to Macro-finance

In January 2003 , Paatom  said it in the sane voice of  M.N.Vijayan that CPM is suffering an ideological suicide as it fell victim to the trap laid by colonial finance measures. Tempted by  sources of finance   roaring around its sense of destination, the party bosses,decided to grow big by  financial deals , to sell political conscience for the profit of belly inflated  with the greed of power. The party bosses still continued its foul play with Marxist jargon and red flag  and Paatom said it is terror unleashed by a horrid mimicry of Marxism

Then the party media discharged a heap of abuses against the unpleasant truth that distorted and disfigured the leftist identity of the party. It was  a war against truth launched by arrogance, peopled with the voices of insanity.

NOW- that the organs and organization of the party are infected with the malignancy of  foreign financing the director board of the political corporate which runs heavy structures of media industry, hospital industry ,tourism industry and political professionalism in general, deploying and exploiting lakhs of humans for wages paid as crumbs from monstrous collection campaigns and mounds of filthy  receipts of corruption, has confessed rotting at the expense of comrades at the  individual level 

The party now claims that it has started a rectification campaign at the individual level since the the board  of directors conclude  that the organization lost its ideological punch and  force of political ethos not due to the fall  in the policy and vision but due to the rotting of party comrades working at the bottom level.

No comrades. no individual , even a doubting Thomas  Issac who deciphered  existential asylum  in Richard Franke the ally of Rabinder Singh is the sinner.-  Even the wholesale trader of ideology and the conductor of Left Word symphony  now playing  extortionist role in the US Leak comics, is not the sinner. Prakash Karat the financial in-law of Reliance,Tata etc. beneficiary of Franke, who abused the history of  the Politburo releasing a defense statement for  the paymaster and the CIA programmer,  is not the sinner at the individual level.

Nor is Achuthanandan, the overgrown hypocrite,and the travesty of a counterfeited martyr and crusader, a professional murderer of political honesty and ideological conscience who keeps obscene financial trucks with the kennels of top corporate -- and who dines with the criminals in the genus of Mohammed Rawoof  is  the sinner at the individual level Acceptance of finance from the brokers of finance internationalization is the  cardinal  crime( committed by the party top officials ) that   ruined the history and existence of the party. . The party received bribes from SNC Lavlin, international war trader and weapon manufacturer of  NATO via Pinarayi, the parody of a thoughtful communist  when televised ,  illiterate in  the  political objectives of financier institutions and finance capitalism   ; he is not the sinner; even while he converts himself to  a disgusting show of arrogance activated by the pleasure of illicit macro-finance muscle power.

Rectify the crime with a bleeding confession  that the illicit finance deals sermonized at the policy level , has converted the party culture into a finance cult, the cult figures being Savy Mao Mathew or Santiago Martyr of lottery, the patron saints of macro finance dreams ,descending to the lower belts of the party. The party led governments    propagated the hegemonic discourses of development ideology programmed by the global finance capital brokers . and fell victim to the trap of finance  in the name of holy development projects that sterilized the productive potentials of a the nation; received huge amounts as grants -wages -for pimping financial colonialism.Colonization by financing is the agenda of global capitalism, and Prakash and co. played and still continues to play  vicious role mediating the colonial interests of the foreign masters.

Mr. Secretary general is the colonial  cousin in hiding, a  terrific  histrionic talent ,  acting and manipulating beneath the breast, a chromosome thread of betrayal dressed  in the  linguistic  outfit.of thunderous revolutionary  drama. Financier is his deity and  financier cult  is  the supreme hegemonic force that governs the massive psyche of the party organization. No ;even the Secretary general ,a  genial   factory of  coloured utterances is not the accused at the individual level. The party organization has been genetically modified  to a beast of  finance psychology ,cultivated by corporate colonial powers. and no individual except the collective leadership at the top is  the accused,in this obscene business of genetic subjugation. The genetically modified CPM is a political crop that betrays Marxism for the favour of  macro finance whether it be Monzanto  or Mombani(a hybrid).
